When you think of Charleston, most folks think of seafood, fried deliciousness, sweetgrass baskets, and being among the oldest cities in the nation. What most don't realize is that Charleston has a significant German heritage that we put on display at Oktoberfests around town every year! Here's where you can celebrate:

September 28: Park Circle Oktoberfest 2019

October 5: Summerville Octoberfestin downtown Summerville

October 12: Oktoberfest Charleston 2019- the official celebration at St. Matthew's [German] Lutheran Church

October 13: Gene's Haufbrau Oktoberfest

October 26: Dogtoberfest at Kiawah

October 27: Oktoberfest Daniel Islandat MUSC Health Stadium

In addition to food and beer, Charleston's German settlers left lasting impressions on the Holy City through several of the oldest German Lutheran churches in the nation as well as the oldest German benevolent society in the nation: The German Friendly Society of Charleston.
