For some, September 22nd heralds the beginning of pumpkin spice season. For Lowcountry natives, we shout "down the hatch" in celebration of the opening of local Oyster season and the launch of dozens of annual oyster roasts all around the area.

And because local oysters are a limited season item, a proud tradition of holding charity oyster roasts has blossomed in the Lowcountry. As native and long-time residents of the Charleston area, our team members have some favorites we recommend:

September 29: 7th Annual Oyster Roast and Chili CookOff, supporting the Florence Crittendon Programs

October 27: AWS Oyster Roast at Bowens Island, supporting the Alston Wilkes Society

November 10: Oysters for Autism at Bowens Island, supporting the Lowcountry Autism Foundation

November 16: 1st Annual Oysters in the Outfield and Chili CookOff in Moncks Corner, supporting Charleston Miracle League

December 7: Deck the Hall Oyster Roast at Drayton Hall, supporting the Drayton Hall Preservation Fund

January 26: Lowcountry Oyster Festival at Boone Hall, supporting the Lowcountry Hospitality Association

NOTE: these are fall oyster roasts, though the season extends through March. We'll update as the post-holiday oyster roasts are announced.
